César - Sans titre (cafetière) (1970)

On Thursday, October 27, 1960, the nouveaux réalistes became aware of their collective singularity. Nouveau Réalisme = new perceptual approaches to reality.

This is how Pierre Restany described the beginning of a new movement in art history. The team spirit will prove more important than stylistic unity. Above all, the artists show a common interest in consumer society and a preference for unconventional materials and techniques.

The 'nouveau-realists' cast a new view upon reality. They consider themselves heirs of Marcel Duchamp and set in motion a tendency that is decisive for 20th-century post-war art.
