Walasse Ting - Passion painting
"My heart is a flower that is blooming on the canvas. A brilliant work of art should arouse such power to give vivacity to those who are lifeless."
Ting grew up during the 1930s in the bustling city of Shanghai. In 1952 he moves to Paris and becomes close friends with Karel Appel, Asger Jorn and Pierre Alechinsky, all members of the Cobra movement. Later on, he travels to New York and gets in touch with Sam Francis and abstract expressionism. Both movements, Cobra and abstract expressionism, had an essential impact on the work of Ting. At the same time however, he will always remain faithful to the flowing lines of Eastern calligraphy.
